“I’ve always loved the rhythm of life at sea — the sense of calm, freedom, and presence it brings.”

She runs a holistic interior design business that combines intentional aesthetics with energy work, helping individuals create living spaces that support their overall well-being. Her approach reflects a deep appreciation for balance, beauty, and purpose.
Meet Terry and Maureen Thompson: Entrepreneurs, World Travelers, and Now Vallarta Yacht Club Members
Terry and Maureen Thompson’s journey to Puerto Vallarta has been full of entrepreneurship, family adventures, and embracing new places—and now they’re thrilled to be part of the Vallarta Yacht Club community as new members.Originally from Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, Terry and Maureen spent years in the fast-paced world of franchising, selling Subway Sandwich franchises and operating several locations themselves. They also brought a healthy lifestyle focus to their community by owning and running Curves for Women franchises.
In 2007, they decided it was time to slow things down—or so they thought. They retired and moved to Costa Rica to raise their three children, embracing a new culture and way of life. Retirement didn’t stick for long, though. Before they knew it, they were back in the restaurant business, opening a few successful eateries in their new home country.
Meet Nic Valcic: A Passionate Sailor Joining the Vallarta Yacht Club
Nic Valcic, one of our newest members at the Puerto Vallarta Yacht Club, brings a wealth of sailing experience and enthusiasm to our community. His journey began in Vancouver, BC, where he developed a deep passion for sailing during his high school years. After spending time in the San Francisco Bay Area, Nic followed the call of the ocean to Puerto Vallarta. Now, he's eager to share his love for sailing and contribute to our vibrant club.
Here's more about Nic's sailing background:
Wind, Waves, and Wild Racing at the J70 Mexican Nationals!
The J70 Mexican National Championships had it all: big winds, fierce competition, and a few white-knuckle moments that made for a weekend to remember! Mother Nature turned on the fan with southerly gusts hitting 20 knots and beyond, putting the fleet’s skills to the ultimate test.
Saturday’s two races were fast and furious, setting the stage for an epic Sunday showdown. Zaguero came in hot, fresh off their European triumph at the Corinthian Championship. But with this much talent on the water, the crystal ball was foggy—no telling who’d take the cup!
A Big Thank You and Farewell to Coach Cris Ortiz!
It’s not every day you watch a 10-year-old grow into a national champion, world traveler, and inspirational coach—but that’s exactly what Vallarta Yacht Club witnessed with Cris Ortiz. Cris has been part of the VYC family since she was just 10 years old. Her mother, Marie Elena Vivas, moved the family to the area after recognizing that her three children were exceptionally talented sailors who needed regular training in Banderas Bay to reach their full potential.
Cris grew up in the Junior Sailing program at VYC and, along with her twin sister Andrea, was a force to be reckoned with. The two dominated WesMex Regattas, often leaving with three trophies apiece. Early in her sailing career, Cris earned spots in several prestigious international competitions during her Optimist (Opti) days.
