For more than three decades, the Banderas Bay Regatta (BBR) has been the centerpiece of the sailing season on Banderas Bay. Blending spirited yacht racing with unforgettable shoreside fun, it has grown into one of Mexico’s premier cruising events. Each year, BBR delivers exhilarating sailing by day and legendary parties by night.
The tradition began in 1994, when a handful of cruisers decided to organize a few casual races. One of the founders, the late Terry O’Rourke, loved to recall the moment when a skipper leading the fleet radioed in to withdraw—not because of trouble, but because he’d hooked a fish! From that lighthearted beginning, BBR has built a worldwide reputation as a welcoming, cruiser-friendly regatta where hundreds of boats have joined the fun.
Every edition of BBR carries its own theme. For 2026, we’re celebrating a cruiser favorite: Jimmy Buffett. Expect boats and crews decked out in Parrothead style, the sound of island music in the air, and margaritas flowing freely.
BBR XXXIII runs March 17–21, 2026, featuring three days of racing in the bay’s perfect sailing conditions, capped off by an epic beach party with live music, dancing, and—of course—plenty of margaritas.
