We’re excited to introduce two wonderful new additions to the VYC community—Blaine and Lisa Meewes! If you haven’t met them yet, you’re in for a treat. Their story is full of adventure, creativity, community spirit, and of course… sailing.

Blaine and Lisa have been retired for 14 years, but “retired” hardly describes their lifestyle. Before retirement, Blaine spent his career as a Locomotive Engineer, running freight trains up and down the Columbia River Gorge and throughout California, Oregon, and Washington—truly a life on the rails. Lisa, equally impressive, dedicated her time to being a homemaker, cooking instructor, and school bus driver—roles that speak to her warmth, talent, and ability to make things happen.

Together they raised two boys and now proudly enjoy being grandparents to three grandchildren.

Two Homes, One Beautiful Life

In 2011, they embraced a new chapter—splitting their time between their home in Camas, Washington and their beloved place in Los Ayala, Nayarit, just north of Nuevo Vallarta. That blend of Pacific Northwest cool and Riviera Nayarit sunshine seems to suit them perfectly.

A Sailing Story That Starts in the '70s

Blaine’s sailing roots run deep. He first took to the water back in the 1970s on Monterey Bay near Santa Cruz—mostly beer can races. After moving to the Pacific Northwest, the couple bought a couple of sailboats (a Kent Ranger 20 and later a C&C 25). Eventually, they hauled an old Hobie 16 down to Mexico and sailed it off the beach in Los Ayala… until the boat finally gave out. (Every sailor has one of those stories!)

A Baking Business & a Love for Community

Lisa put her talents to work by launching a cake-baking business, delivering her creations to local restaurants throughout the Jaltemba Bay area—especially during the high season. Her love of food, creativity, and bringing joy to people clearly shines through everything she does.

After selling their home in Los Ayala, Blaine and Lisa moved into a condo in Flamingos, ready for new friendships and a fresh chapter. It didn’t take long. After meeting neighbors Dave and Sheryl—who, of course, told them all about VYC—they decided to check us out. And we’re so happy they did!

 What They’re Looking Forward To

Lisa can’t wait to dive into the social side of the club—card games, anything involving food, and time with new friends. Blaine is hoping to get in some sailing. They’re both excited to connect with this community, and knowing VYC, it won’t take long before they feel right at home.

Please help us give a warm VYC welcome to Blaine and Lisa Meewes.

We’re thrilled you’re here and can’t wait to see you around the club!
