VYC Joins the Global Sailing Celebration with a Day of Sun, Sails & Smiles
On Saturday, June 21, Vallarta Yacht Club took to the water to celebrate Summer Sailstice, a global holiday that unites sailors from around the world in a shared passion for life under sail. Marked annually on the weekend closest to the summer solstice, Summer Sailstice encourages everyone—whether experienced sailors or first-time crew—to hoist their sails and celebrate the longest day of the year.
VYC certainly rose to the occasion!
We rallied 25 members and guests, both kids and adults, and headed out into beautiful Banderas Bay aboard a variety of member and club boats. The destination: La Manzanilla Beach, a tranquil spot just north of La Cruz, perfect for dropping anchor, sharing a picnic lunch and munchies and enjoying the warm afternoon together. There was no shortage of water fun—tubing behind RIBs, paddleboarding, swimming, and all kinds of splashing around in the clear, warm bay waters. We sailed a Hobie 16 over behind our "Mothership," the beautiful Beneteau Hey Ya, and everyone took turns on it when we weren't feasting on the cornucopia of potluck foods that everyone brought.
This event captured everything that makes VYC so special—community, connection, and the joy of being on the water. It also aligned perfectly with Summer Sailstice’s mission: to grow participation in sailing and to build a broader, more inclusive sailing culture worldwide.
A big thank you to all the skippers who offered up their boats, and to the families and friends who made this sunny celebration one to remember. We look forward to making this an annual tradition as part of VYC’s summer calendar!
Until next solstice—fair winds and following seas!
