Banderas Bay Regatta – Where FUN Wins Every Time!

Captain Ron himself couldn’t have thrown a better party! With more parties than races, we’re pretty sure that’s exactly what the founders had in mind—and the 32nd annual Banderas Bay Regatta stayed true to tradition. Over 200 crew members, volunteers, and organizers wrapped up the weeklong celebration with dancing, drinks, awards, and heartfelt tributes. Cheers to the winners—both on and off the water!

Sailing in Tribute

In a touching tribute to Past Commodore Randy Hough, Dave Gould sailed Randy’s beloved s/v Cricket to victory, taking first place in the multihull category. It was a fitting way to honor a man who was such a driving force for VYC. To cap off the evening, a fireworks display lit up the sky in his memory—a true sailor’s sendoff.

The Real MVPs

A huge shoutout to Andy Barrow, chairman of the BBR, for keeping the organizing committee on track—even in his absence. His team ran the show so smoothly, you’d think they had a secret race committee autopilot. And to all of the amazing volunteers on and off the water who make this event possible, we love you all

And of course, no regatta is complete without the Spirit of Captain Ron Award, which went to Hey Ya!—not for their race results (we won’t talk about that), but for their unmatched enthusiasm and commitment to keeping the fun alive.

Toasts & Last Words

Yak from Lost Dragon wrapped up the night with his signature nautical toast:

"There are old ships and there are wood ships and there are ships that sail the seas, But the best ships are friendships, May they always be. Cheers!"

And, in true Captain Ron fashion, Lon had the last word:
“Swabbie, get your own beer!”

Until next year, sailors—keep the wind in your sails and the party in your hearts!
