This is supposed to be the beginning of the quiet time of the year for Vallarta Yacht Club, but it seems remarkably not so! Shortly after the elections at the Annual General Meeting in February, and before the official “Change of Watch”, the new slate of flag Officers and Directors were proactively working with the outgoing Board members. They simultaneously hosted our signature Banderas Bay Regatta with excellent results. While the March and April activities afloat were completing the season’s sailing calendar, the activities ashore included the popular “All Volunteer Luncheon”, and the Junior Sailing Program semi-annual Fundraiser.
Next season is predicted to be a busy one. In addition to hosting the 2011 Pan-American Games Sailing events and co-hosting the San Diego to Puerto Vallarta Race; plans are to improve our signature Banderas Bay and WesMex Regattas. As well, there also are many other social events being planned for the 2011-2012 high season. including a multi-year Puddle Jumpers Reunion. I hope it all will be of interest to you. The Club calendar for the coming season is nearing completion and is scheduled for Board approval by the 15th of May.
I have asked the Board to help me identify 3-5 overall Objectives to be accomplished during the year. The Board’s hope is to involve many people among various subcommittees. We are hoping not to impose too much on anyone’s time, and hope to proceed in an efficient manner. Participating in Club events is a hallmark of our membership (143 members were invited to this year’s All Volunteer Luncheon) and provides an excellent opportunity to meet new people and experience new adventures in boating.
Lastly, I wish to thank all of you who have volunteered your expertise and time so generously, the outgoing Board of Directors and the wonderful Club staff so expertly managed by Rudy Trejo and assisted by Daniel Espinoza.
