Let's get ready to RRRUUUMMMBLE!

Did everyone have a great summer? I know I did – Liz and I had a great trip to Turkey with members Randy and Leslie Hough, and Norm and Margaret Shaw. What a wonderful country. While there, we visited the Marmaris Yacht Club, exchanging burgees and inviting them to visit us here in beautiful Banderas Bay.

Did you know about the extensive list of clubs that we have reciprocal agreements with? It's on the web site here. One of the most important benefits of VYC membership is the opportunity to use our reciprocal agreements in yacht clubs worldwide. All you need is a current VYC membership card and you can use the facilities at over 50 clubs. Will you be traveling and plan to visit a club that is not on our list? Let me know – we'll try to hook you up with a letter of introduction, an invitation for reciprocal privileges, and even a burgee to exchange.

Now, on to telling you about this season!

Of course, the biggest thing on the horizon will be the Pan Am Games. I can't tell you the number of times I've heard people say, “This is a BIG DEAL!” No doubt about it, this is the biggest, most important event that the Vallarta Yacht Club has ever undertaken. Former Commodore Linda Green has a list over 60 club volunteers that will be helping out. Many of the volunteers will be helping the club staff to step up to the challenge of creating over 1000 box lunches and other meals for event competitors and officials. Others of us will be on the water, helping to officiate the event.

Security is going to be tight, which may restrict public access to the club, but members are very welcome if they are carrying a valid membership card. Check your card now and make sure it's up to date – if not, head over to the club and get a new one.

You may notice that the club has a different menu right now which doesn't show a member price. Ask your server, they will tell you the member prices for all the items on the menu.

What else has been going on? Well, for one thing we kicked off the VYC “On Watch” newsletter last spring, and it has been a great success. We gratefully acknowledge the hard work of Janet Coburn in leading the charge in making the newsletter the success it has become. If you have some news that you think the VYC membership would benefit from, contact Janet.

Also in October, Director of Membership Bonnie Fearis will be kicking off a new membership drive. Tell your friends! We'll be announcing the new drive on the VYC web site, including discounts and other incentives

October is just the beginning of a huge season for VYC. All through the season we have amazing events happening, including Jazz concerts and other live music, special dinners, fund-raising events, and of course a big season of on-the-water events. Keep an eye on the VYC web site, particularly the event calendar, to keep up to date.

It's going to be a great season. I look forward to sharing it with you.

Andy
