Spring has Sprung!

"Wait, you want me to look after the Bar/Restaurant, the clubhouse, our support boats, our staff, our Amigos del Club, AND the membership program? Ummm, does the word RETIRED mean anything to you?"

Okay, so some of us just can't sit still in retirement. I'm happy to be voted your Vice Commodore, and I'm still peeling back the onion layers of the job. Yikes! There's a lot here. To anyone who has been VYC Vice Commodore in the past, I salute you. Not only did you all do a fantastic job, you did an equally fantastic job of keeping the secret that this is a lot of work!

Okay, now that I've vented, let's talk about the 2011/2012 season and what is going on!

First, the Bar and Restaurant. On May 1, we transition to Summer hours, which we'll continue to October 1. The restaurant goes to a shorter menu, and we eliminate breakfast. Sundays, the bar will be open and the club will be open for Cruiser's Pot Luck, but we aren't going to be serving food on that day. Come on in anyway! It's a great day to come by, sip on a beer and chill. "Chill" is a great word for it, don't forget that during the hot summer we'll do our best to keep the air conditioners working in the clubhouse for those who want to come inside to escape the heat.

During the summer, we're going to be having events from time to time for those folks who stick around in the area. Look for a few concerts by local artists, and some specialty dinners.

Last but certainly not least, happy hour! Our happy hours have started, Tuesdays and Thursdays well drinks and house wine are two-for-one from 5-7pm. Come on down!

On the membership front, Bonnie Fearis and her team have been working hard on attracting new members to our club. We will have our Summer membership drive through the month of June and will be offering half-price Flag Member initiation. Bonnie's team has also taken the responsibility for coordinating a regular VYC email newsletter - look for more on that shortly.

If you don't know what an Amigo del Club is, you should! These are local vendors that offer VYC members discounts just by showing your VYC membershp card. Want to go on a Vallarta Adventure? Discount! Sailing instruction from J-World? Discount! Need to go to the doc? Citi Medica has you covered with discounts on a number of services. Click over to Our Community > Amigos del Club for the list.

If that wasn't enough, the VYC web site is going through a series of changes to make it a better resource for our members, and for those who just want to know more about the Vallarta Yacht Club. Keep coming back to the site as we make changes and add content.

That's enough for now, I'll update you shortly on our plans as they develop. The best to all of you, and have a great summer!

Saludos,

Andy Barrow
Vice Commodore
