This is the first of ongoing articles about individuals within the Vallarta Yacht Club that give so much of themselves. If you know
someone that deserves recognition, please send a note to membership@vallartayachtclub.org with your ideas.
Standing on the boat ramp with hands outstretched, ready to help at every regatta.... who do you see but Jim and Marilyn Moxin! Familiar faces, always smiling, and always ready to assist wherever needed, these two VYC members give a tremendous amount of time to the club.
Known as the "Bean Lady", Marilyn is a familiar face all over the northern Bay. She donates her time not only to VYC, but to many other charities and organizations that we are all very familiar with. This infamous nickname came from her efforts at the the Bucerias Rhythm and Ribs, where she has provided the best beans around for this annual event. Among the many other organizations that these two work with are the Bucerias Recyclers, Philos Christmas and various findraisers, and Jim even works as a volunteer marshall at Flamingos Golf Course.
How do they find the time? Jim is retired from a career in aerospace. After 30 years serving Canada in the Canadian Air Force, he traveled around the world as a technical sales representative for aircraft engine repair. Before retirement he also worked for an airline.
Marilyn spent her career as an insurance broker. Most recently, she insured hospitals, long term care facilities, and social housing.
After coming to the PV area for more years than they can count, these Canadians from the Vancouver area decided to call Bucerias home - for 12 months a year.
It wouldn't be approriate to end this article without saying a big "Thank You" to the Moxin team for their most recent efforts for the VYC - chairing the 2011 "12th Annual Chili Cookoff"! Their campaigning paid off as they achieved 24 chili table reservations in record time. Be sure to come to the event this weekend and say thank you in person to the newly crowned "Chili Bean Queen!"
(Editors note... I did take writers priviledge in awarding the "Chili Bean Queen" award... but no one deserves it more than Marilyn!)
