Our Volunteers

Welcome to the VYC Volunteer Gateway!

VYC is a very active club. In the 2010-2011 season over 165 people volunteered their time to help make VYC events successful. We want to make sure that everyone that wants to join the fun of participating in and supporting our events and programs has the chance to do what makes it fun for them! We are a first a social club, everything we do has a social side. It just so happens that 165 VYC Volunteers comprise about 70% of our membership!

Our events provide opportunity for everyone to be involved. This new part of the VYC website is dedicated to our Volunteers.

About the OTW Support Crew

More than just a Race Committee!

Many On The Water (OTW) events VYC hosts are in a race or regatta format, and the Race Committee is central to that. But OTW support is more than just the Race Committee, much more.

No one person can run a good race or series. It takes a good team. Each member of the OTW Crew has an important role to play. When you become part of the crew you eat drink and breathe TEAM. Focus on your role (what you enjoy) and keep an eye out for the needs of the rest of the crew.

Roles VYC Volunteers Play

The opening lines of “A funny thing happened on the way to the forum” …

Something familiar, Something peculiar, Something for everyone: A comedy tonight!

Like a comedy, VYC events are Fun! Being part of the team that puts on each event is fun too. Here is a list of some of the events and the roles our helpers play to make them happen.

M&Ms? No... it's the MMM!

On Monday Morning January 23, at 9:30, all previous volunteers, future volunteers, and wantabe volunteers are invited to an informal "thank you" at the club.  Randy Hough, the VYC Rear Commodore, will treat you to a cup of coffee or juice while you have a chance to talk about all of our upcoming activities.

As Rear Commodore, Randy holds the responsibility of head cheerleader what's in-charge of all volunteer activities, and he would like to hear feedback and ideas from everyone.  Other VYC members who are chairing volunteer events will be there as well. This will be an excellent time to discuss responsibilities of various positions and to ask all of your questions.

Volunteering Isn't Just for "the Beans"

This is the first of ongoing articles about individuals within the Vallarta Yacht Club that give so much of themselves.  If you know
someone that deserves recognition, please send a note to membership@vallartayachtclub.org with your ideas.

Standing on the boat ramp with hands outstretched, ready to help at every regatta.... who do you see but Jim and Marilyn Moxin!  Familiar faces, always smiling, and always ready to assist wherever needed, these two VYC members give a tremendous amount of time to the club.

Known as the "Bean Lady", Marilyn is a familiar face all over the northern Bay.  She donates her time not only to VYC, but to many other charities and organizations that we are all very familiar with.  This infamous nickname came from her efforts at the the Bucerias Rhythm and Ribs, where she has provided the best beans around for this annual event.  Among the many other organizations that these two work with are the Bucerias Recyclers, Philos Christmas and various findraisers, and Jim even works as a volunteer marshall at Flamingos Golf Course.

It’s all about the GAMES!

The games are quickly approaching and once again the VYC members have demonstrated their willingness to become involved and ensure a successful event.  At this point, 87 members have volunteered to work on the Pan American Games Sailing Event.  They have donated a total of 24 boats to be used in support of the races; and we can expect close to 3,000 man hours worked of volunteer time!  These are some very impressive figures and the Vallarta Yacht Club should be proud once again.

In addition to volunteer hours, the VYC staff will be on over drive.  They will be providing over 1,000 lunches for on-the-water support teams as well as on-shore volunteers.  Additionally,
