As the Pan American Games approach, the Vallarta Yacht Club is ROCKING! We received posters to hang at the entrance to the club as well as off the back deck, announcing Vallarta Yacht Club as the venue for the Sailing Events of the 2011 Pan American Games. Teams from Argentina and Venezuela have been seen in the area training and we are expecting to see teams from Brazil, Canada and the United States in the upcoming months.
We are expecting 140 athletes competing in 87 boats from 19 countries!
The chart below shows the classes of boats and the countries represented in each class, as of March 11 2011.

We still need volunteers. If you have not done so already, contact Linda Green ( greenlr01@gmail.com ) if you can spare a few days to help us with the many, many jobs on the water and off. We need support to help with everything from registration, security, helping boats into and out of the water, measurements, information table, radio monitoring, … you name it, we can use your help! We also need more motor boats. Any size will do.
Take a look at the following schedule of events to see when and if you can volunteer or simply to watch the action on the Bay!

In our last newsletter, we mentioned the changes around Guadalajara in preparation of the games. Here in Vallarta, we are seeing the reconstruction of the malecon. While it’s hard to believe that the government has taken on this project, it is true and the project is moving on at an amazing pace. At this point, the first two streets along the Malecon are open to foot traffic and seven of the eight streets are almost completed. For more information on the progress of the Puerto Vallarta Malecon, you can go to: http://www.banderasnews.com/1107/nb-maleconstreetsopen.htm
The Puerto Vallarta Malecon will serve as the venue for the awards ceremony of the games held in Vallarta. Those games to be held in Vallarta include Sailing, Swimming – Open Water, Triathlon, and Beach Volleyball.
T-shirts, long sleeve shirts, hats and visors are available at the club for purchase announcing that VYC is the “Host of the Pan American Games 2011”. Stop in to buy one soon so you can spread the word about having our VYC hosting one of sailing world’s most prestigious events!
