Giving Back to the Banderas Area Community

VYC members are a very giving group.  So periodically we will provide information in our newsletter about local non-profit organizations that have scheduled events, and/or ways VYC members can help the local community.    In May the Altruism Festival was held, the largest fund-raising event of Banderas Bay, sponsored by the  U.S. Consolate here in PV.  Here’s what’s happening in  June…

Manos de Amor is a shelter in Bucerias for children whose parents are unwilling or unable to care for them.  Some have mental or physical problems and the family does not have the money, time or resources to care for them.  Manos de Amor (“Hands of Love”) tries to provide these children with food, clothing and shelter, ensure that they attend school and give them a safe haven for as long as necessary.  To accomplish this they hold several types of fundraisers each year.  One of these is scheduled for June 12 – a Bazaar, selling used items in good condition.  To help, you can either donate items or buy them.  You can arrange for pick-up of any furniture, appliances, household items, clothing, shoes, whatever is sellable and in good condition.  Contact casanicole2010@gmail.comto arrange pick-up.  If you’d like to go to the Bazaar, it’s located at the Manos de Amor site at Rio Balsa y Rio Compostela in Bucerias.  The same email can give directions.    Also, 6 new children arrived at Manos de Amor within 3 weeks, so if you have any children’s clothing for ages 18 months – 8 yrs to donate, it is greatly appreciated.  To learn more about this non-profit organization, visit http://www.manosdeamor.com/index.htm

BBCC stands for the Bucerias Bilingual Community Center.  This non-profit community center has a full roster of events and was created to promote Spanish/English education and interaction.  Their latest  project is to be the location for the summertime Farmers Market, located during high season at the La Cruz Marina.  The local vendors still need to eat, and so do we … so by visiting this market not only can you enjoy fresh produce and handmade crafts, you can support the local economy and the BBCC at the same time.  It was a struggle to get the word out and make it worthwhile for the vendors to come from La Cruz and Sayulita. Now the news is spreading and people are making the effort to find the BBCC and discover the pleasure of helping the community and residents thrive during the difficult summer months.  You can help – just go shopping!  Saturdays 10:00 – 2:00.  The BBCC is located just 2 blocks up Matamoros, just off the main highway by Carnes del Mundo and Bajo Cero Ice House. There is plenty of on-street parking and shade.  For more information on the BBCC and their many programs visit http://buceriasbilingualcommunitycenter.org/  .
