See how the Pan American Games are changing the look of Vallarta

To learn more about the changes go to http://www.banderasnews.com/1106/nb-panamgames9.htm

Wikipedia defines the Pan American Games like this: “The Pan American Games (Pan Am Games) is a multi-sport event between competitors from all nations in Americas, held every four years in the year before the summer Olympic Games. The games were last held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 2007. The next will be in Guadalajara, Mexico in 2011, followed by the 2015 games in Toronto, Canada.”

So if you’re travelling to Guadalajara in the near future, don’t bother with your GPS to find your way around as many of the streets and roads within the city and the surrounding area have changed dramatically as Guadalajara makes improvements to their infrastructure in anticipation of the games.  Stadiums and auditoriums have gone up, overpasses have been built and highways have been reconstructed.  In fact you can see the changes right here in Puerto Vallarta where the malecon is being rebuilt over the next 4 months.  The malecon will be the site of the award ceremony for the Sailing, Beach Volleyball, and Triathalon events.

What better place to hold the sailing events for the Pan Am Games than right here at our own Vallarta Yacht Club and Paradise Village Resort and Marina!  We are honored to be chosen as the location that has the quality facility for the boats, the room accommodations for the participants and volunteers, and the overall reputation for hosting world class events on the Bay of Banderas.

The chart below shows the classes of boats and the countries represented in each class, as of March 11 2011..

You will be hearing more about the Pan Am Games over the next few months.  This is a very exciting time for Vallarta Yacht Club and an incredible honor to be one of the host venues for the 2011 Pan American Games.

Our own Linda Green is the Co-Chairperson for the Pan Am Games, coordinating all the efforts from our club to support the sailing events in the event...  a full time job in itself!  She works closely with Beatriz Gonzales Luna Ruiz, a former Commodore of the Lake Chapala Yacht Club, who is the other Co-Chairperson for the Pan Am Games sailing events.  You have likely seen Beatriz around the club as she is here often.

If you are interested in volunteering for the games but haven’t put your name in yet you can contact Linda Green at greenlr01@gmail.com

For the latest information about the games,   go to the official website where you can read about all the latest news on the games.
