The coastal towns of San Pancho, Sayulita, Higuera Blanca, Guamuchil, and San Ignacio have been devastated by mudslides, collapsed bridges and closed highways. The Mexican Army and Municipalities are trying to help by clearing mud and working hard to open roadways. However, the need is overwhelming and people are without basic supplies of food, clothing and water. The Vallarta Yacht Club can help, with your participation.
A Relief Program across all of Banderas Bay has been implemented to help the Flood Victims through this difficult time. Donation boxes are set up in Puerto Vallarta, Nuevo Vallarta, Bucerias, La Cruz and Punta de Mita. The non-profit PEACE organization is working with community organizations to manage distribution of donated goods to all 5 communities according to need, by land and by panga. They are asking for basics:
- Dry and Canned Food (Rice, beans, tuna, etc)
- Clothing - adult + child
- Diapers + baby formula
- Bleach
- Water
Our donation box is ready to be filled at the Vallarta Yacht Club - just look for the box with this poster. For more information, photos and other drop-off locations click here.
Anything you can spare will be appreciated. Check your cupboards and closets for extra cans of food and T-shirts you don't need. President Calderon says "Mexico is experiencing its worst rainy season on record, and the rains are set to intensify" and almost 1,000,000 people across Mexico have been affected. We can help in a small way - an extra can of food when we grocery shop, a piece of clothing no longer worn. Yes, we have made requests on behalf of the needy in recent months, unfortunately no one can predict when natural disasters will occur and we must ask again.
Working together, we can help!
