Vallarta Cup 2012 - Everyone Won!

The VYC Vallarta Cup for 2012 was a success by any measure, but the most important measure of all was the smiles on the faces of the participants. For the last race of the series, Primary Race Officer Randy Hough and Assistant Race Officer Janet Coburn did their usual spectactular job managing the race and providing ongoing commentary on VHF 63 for those who weren't fortunate enough to be on the water. The fleet was joined by a film crew from the Canadian travel series "Paradise Hunter", who got great shots of the unique way we do racing events here in beautiful Banderas Bay.

Vallarta Cup 2012 - Help Ryan Van Duzer Find His Paradise

Vallarta Cup 2012 has been one of the best ever. Lots of boats have come out to enjoy sailing on beautiful Banderas Bay, and everyone has had a great time. For the last Vallarta Cup race this year, we are being joined by the film crew from the TV series "Paradise Hunter". Ryan Van Duzer (formerly of Discovery TV's "Out of the Wild") and crew will be aboard Richard Spindler's "Profligate" for the race, and will be joining us at VYC for the after-series cocktail party and awards ceremony. Ryan will be interviewing locals on why they chose Banderas Bay as their home, and joining in spirit of our beautiful Mexican home.

Time of the after-race party depends on the finish of the event, but plan on around 5pm. Racers may have slips at Paradise Village marina, just call the marina before 6pm. Please join us for the race on the water, and for the party afterwards. Help Ryan find his paradise!

Bright Star Takes the Second Round of Vallarta Cup

The second round of the Vallarta Cup started off La Cruz Marina, with Performance Cruisers heading upwind to a turning mark near Point Pantoque, while the other three fleets went on a reaching course to Nuevo Vallarta. Wind conditions varied during the day from flat calm to almost 15 knots. As PRO Randy Hough put it, "There was some great racing on the bay today. I think every boat will have a story to tell. The Cat/Cruising class finishes saw some of the best boat for boat sailing I've seen in a long time ... Escape Velocity, two 40 something Cats, Maloose, and our treasurer Al Benaroya in Sunseeker were 100% intent fighting to get to the finish ... I can't wait to hear Al's version of the port/starboard between Sunseeker and one of the Cats less than 200 meters from the finish ..."
