Charity News and Events

Toys for Tots

The Vallarta Navy League brought lots of smiles to children of all ages, all around Greater Banderas Bay. The Vallarta Yacht Club is proud to support the Navy League, and in particular this worthwhile charitable effort.  Funds from the Taste of Nuevo/Chili Cook-Off went to Toys for Tots in addition to Families at the Dump.

Those funds helped buy toys for children who otherwise would not have had such a joyous holiday.  Toys are distributed at

schools around the Bay as close as possible to Kings Day, January 6th.  To see a full slideshow of the smiles on so many children, click here for the Vallarta Navy League website.

Toy Drive Brings Smiles

The VYC December Toy Drive for children of Families at the Dump was a huge success!  Enough toys were collected to bring lots of smiles to the 500 kids of the families registered in the program.  Cake and chocolate milk made the afternoon complete, and seeing these happy faces says it all!

Changes to Community Action

Things change but our commitment remains the same.

We would like to welcome The Navy League of Puerto Vallarta to the VYC Community Action Program.

When the VYC Community Action Program was implemented July, 2011 an organized program was established to support for primarily two organizations: Families at the Dump (FAD) and PEACE.  In addition, information is distributed on programs of the Bucerias Bilingual Community Center (BBCC) through the VYC website and calendar.

Recently PEACE restructured. The "old" Peace was liquidated and a new PEACE was formed with fewer activities and smaller radius of activity, and they now provide programs only to Punta Mita and a few close-by areas and the September North Bay-wide food drive by PEACE was cancelled.  Given this change, we revisited and revised the VYC Community Action Program.

The revised plan for the VYC Community Action Program is to support the Navy League of Puerto Vallarta, in addition to supporting FAD.  The Navy League is an outstanding organization that fits well with the objectives, criteria and intent of the VYC program.  Their charitable activities range across greater Banderas Bay with playgrounds they have built, the Toys for Tots program, and COMRELs. (COMRELs are community relations programs of painting, repairs, etc for needy charitable organizations, organized with visiting US ship crews and Navy League volunteers).

We are excited about this new direction with the VYC community support. Watch for ongoing news and updates in the Community Action section of the VYC website, such as their upcoming benefit event.

Toys and Smiles

Look at those smiles!

On Saturday, January 5th the children of the Families at the Dump (FAD) program received their toys, in time for Kings Day.  Traditionally, Christmas gifts are exchanged on Kings Day, to celebrate when the 3 kings brought gifts for baby Jesus.

Thanks to the VYC Toy Drive and help from volunteers and local companies, the party was a huge success!  In addition to VYC members bringing toys during the 3 week collection,
